Using energy and resources efficiently
The Young Energy Europe 2.0 funding project of the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DIHK) aims to equip young employees to recognise and take advantage of potential to save energy and resources in their companies. Since early 2021, eight bilateral German chambers of commerce in Europe have offered the training for the Energy Scout certification. A total of 798 young employees took part and went on to develop 361 real-life projects in their respective companies. The project, which is part of the European Climate Initiative programme, concluded at the end of March 2024.
Energy Scouts in over 300 companies and eight countries
The Energy Scouts project, which took place in over 300 companies across Poland, Czechia, the Slovak Republic, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria and Greece, led to measures which will save 121,000 megawatt-hours of electricity and 124,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually – figures comparable with the electricity consumption of a small city. Many projects have already been implemented thanks to short amortisation periods. These projects not only encourage sustainable business, but also contribute to a cross-border knowledge exchange for occupational climate action in Eastern Europe and in the Western Balkan states.
Project brochure showcases effective real-life solutions
The Young Energy Europe 2021-2024 project brochure shows how diverse and effective the real-life practical solutions of the European Energy Scouts are: they range from exchanging conventional lighting with LEDs and implementing photovoltaic installations on company roofs, parking lots or empty outdoors spaces to optimising energy management in factories and refrigerated warehouses.
